He’s the golfer of the group, and he loves to tease Jerry the minion, particularly for being a bit of a wimp. He’s not the minion you’d take to go and see a scary movie, that’s for sure! He’s quite the sensitive little soul, and weird things, such as strange noises, will often scare him. (He doesn’t mind us saying that, don’t worry!) He’s often branded a coward, and when we see Kevin telling him as such, we can see that he gets upset by this. Technically, they tried to save the day … JerryĪnother two-eyed little beauty, Jerry the minion is quite the character, rocking his spiky hair, slightly plumper than the majority of the other minions. In the second movie, Despicable Me 2, Gru paints both Stuart and Dave purple to help sneak them into the compound owned by Eduardo. Of course, we can’t talk about minion Dave without having a little mention for Stuart the minion too! This little guy only has one eye, but that doesn’t under him when he’s feeling all rescue-like. He’s one of the most loveable – who doesn’t love Dave the minion? Stuart He shows such remorse in the way he hangs his head after, and as much as you laugh, you can’t help but feel super sorry for him. He’s clumsy too, and we see a classic example of his clumsy nature when he accidentally fires a mean looking rocket launcher in the first movie. Lucy Wilde’s car – Stuart and Dave come to his rescue.Ī lover of ice cream, Dave the minion also loves computer games, and is known to play them with his rescue-buddy, Stuart. We see one example of this when Gru has been bundled into the back of Miss. Combined with another minion, Stuart, he’s the closest minions to their super villain boss, Gru, and when he comes into distress, they are usually the first on the scene to save him. He’s hilarious, obviously, but he’s more than that – kind and generous also. This is definitely the case in the second of the two movies, Despicable Me 2. This little guy has two eyes, and he’s the main minion out of them all. We’ve decided to take a closer look at the minions, and here’s the who’s who list: For the record, the minions are voiced by two people – Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin. They also have a few foes – Vector, Eduardo, and the evil minions, to name but a few. ![]() The minions themselves have many friends – Gru, for example, but also Margo, Edith, Agnes, and Dr. It seems like their lingo doesn’t make a lot of sense, but in each country that the movie is released, the motion voices are dubbed, making it easier for the viewers in that country to understand them too. He also understands their language – Minionese – made up of a number of others, including English, Italian, Spanish, French, Hindi, and even Bahasa Indonesian. ![]() He certainly appreciates the hard work they put in for him, masterminding plots to take over the world and other such evil-ry, and unlike many of us, he knows each of them by name. ![]() Gru, the evil mastermind in the movies, is one of the first villains in a movie to actually adore his little henchmen sidekicks. And their costumes too – those boiler suits / overalls and goggles certainly make for an interesting get-up. From the first movie, right up until now, they fast became a much-loved movie character, causing viewers all over the world to laugh along with their hilarious antics. They have very little to zero self control, they’re very naive and innocent, and they’re also very endearing. Shaped like Tic-Tacs, they can have either one or two eyes, and they’re creatures that are known for being rather mischievous.

![]() ![]() Across all such studies, participants reported that the target’s behavior revealed his or her true attitude, even when that behavior had been coerced by the situation. Sometimes this action was described to have been voluntary other times, this action was described to have been compelled (e.g., an experimenter asked the person to advocate a specific position). Participants in these studies judged the attitude of a hypothetical person who was described in a vignette as advocating an unpopular political position. Classic studies in social psychology attempted to bring similar scenarios into the laboratory. When a psychology professor is seen responding to an upset student in a dismissive way, for example, one may infer that this occurred because of some aspect of the professor’s disposition or because of unfortunate circumstances of the interaction. Observers watch what people do, and they make judgments about others based on those observations. In each case, the general perception of a person is the product of inference, and the attribution theories that were proposed a half a century ago remain valid in understanding how such perceptions occur. Instead, these attributes or traits must be discerned-either from observing the person’s actions (actually watching the person behave in a loyal or honest manner) or from interpreting information provided by a third party (e.g., what a roommate conveys about Jill or what the experimenter reveals). Many of the personal attributes that observers may want to know about another person (e.g., whether the person is loyal, honest, or contemptible) are not directly observable. Thus, the early research in this area investigated when and how people infer traits from behaviors. Jones and Keith Davis’s theory of correspondent inferences described why people infer that behaviors reveal personality. Harold Kelley’s covariation model, for example, described how people discern the attitudes of others based on simple factors surrounding observed behaviors. These basic observations affected decades of research and provided an important foundation for two related theories, in particular. Fritz Heider proposed that people can attribute the behaviors of others to factors that are internal (personality, dispositions, etc.) or external (situational constraints), but that people are prone to make internal attributions. Given that Bill kicked a dog, what kind of impression is an observer likely to form? Much of the early research investigating such impressions had roots in attribution theory. In social psychology, the phrase person perception has historically referred to the perception of others that leads to judgments of traits and dispositions. Both of these types of person perception provide a foundation from which subsequent judgments are formed and subsequent interactions are shaped. Other forms of person perception occur more directly and require little more than seeing another person. ![]() Some forms of person perception occur indirectly and require inferring information about a person based on observations of behaviors or based on second-hand information. Person perception refers to a general tendency to form impressions of other people. ![]() HH is linked to mutations in at least eight genes ( ABCC8, KCNJ11, GLUD1, GCK, HADH, SLC16A1, HNF4A, HNF1A) that alter β-cell function ( 7). HH infants have inappropriate insulin and/or C-peptide levels despite the presence of hypoglycemia, hypoketonemia and hypofattyacidemia. Hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia (HH) is characterized by inappropriate insulin secretion while hypoglycemic and the need for high glucose infusion rate (GIR) requirements (>8 mg/kg/min) to maintain normoglycemia (3.5–5.9 mmol/L) in newborn infants beyond 48 h of life. The prevalence of neonatal hypoglycemia is similar regardless of parental HNF4A inheritance and persistent hypoglycemia is independent of gestational glucose control ( 6). Among infants with HNF4A mutations, 56% are macrosomic and 15% encounter neonatal hypoglycemia ( 5). ![]() HNF4A mutations are a less common cause of MODY (10%) than glucokinase (GCK) (30–50%) and HNF1A (30–50%). Mutations in HNF4A may lead to biphasic presentations, characterized by transient or persistent HH in infants, and diabetes in young adults. HNF4A is an orphan receptor protein expressed in the liver, kidney, gut, and pancreatic β-cells ( 4). Among these, only HNF4A (MODY1) and HNF1A (MODY3) mutations on chromosomes 12 and 20 respectively, may result in a biphasic phenotype ( 3). MODY gene mutations have been described with clinically heterogeneous phenotypes ( 2). Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is an acronym used to describe dominantly inherited forms of monogenic diabetes diagnosed before 25 years of age ( 1). This pedigree suggests that the presence of early-onset paternal diabetes should prompt molecular testing in infants presenting in the newborn period with diazoxide-responsive hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia, even in the absence of maternal diabetes and macrosomia. The paternal grandparents were negative for this mutation, confirming a paternal de novo mutation and autosomal dominant inheritance in this family. Proband's elder sister, born at term appropriate for gestational age, presented with transient neonatal hypoglycemia needing parenteral glucose infusion for a week followed by spontaneous resolution. Father was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 15 years of age that required insulin therapy. Cascade genetic screening identified the same mutation in his father and elder sister, but mother was negative. Glucose regulation was optimized using diazoxide upon confirmation of hyperinsulinism. He was born to a non-obese and non-diabetic mother. The proband was a term, appropriate-for-gestational age male infant with symptomatic hypoglycemia on day 3 of life needing high glucose infusion rate to maintain normoglycemia. We report a family with a novel HNF4A mutation with diverse phenotypic presentations of glucose dysregulation. Of the MODY genes described to date, only hepatocyte nuclear factor-4-alpha ( HNF4A MODY1) and hepatocyte nuclear factor-1-alpha (HNF1A MODY3) mutations may result in a biphasic phenotype of hypoglycemia in early life and hyperglycemia in later life. In contrast, mutations in certain MODY genes can also present with transient or persistent hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia in newborn infants, reflecting instead β-cell dysregulation. Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) classically describes dominantly inherited forms of monogenic diabetes diagnosed before 25 years of age due to pancreatic β-cell dysfunction. |
